The Kimberley Backpackers
The Kimberley Backpackers is ideally situated on the corner of Buitenkant and Roeland streets in the heart of Cape Town, bordering Cape Town CBD, Gardens and District Six. Our backpackers offers 12 rooms above one of Cape Towns oldest historic hotel pubs (The Kimberley Hotel) that was built in 1895. This hotel was originally the starting point for the first settlers/miners and prospectors who travelled on horse-drawn carriages to the town of Kimberleys diamond mines. The hotel and traditional Barnies English Pub (locally known as The Kimbo) on the ground level still offers a vintage charm with tiled walls, dark wood, as well as diamond and gold mining bric-a-brack.
Being at the edge of Cape Town City, the District Six Museum, Cape Towns historic Parliament, Green Market Square, The Castle of Goodhope, Gardens Shopping Mall and Long street (to mention but a few) are all in walking distance. Table Mountain Cable Way, The Waterfront, Seapoint and Camps Bay and their beaches are all within a 5 to 15 minutes drive. The surrounding neighbourhood is also famous for its Boutique Shops, Restaurants, Bars, Coffee shops and Nightclubs – please enquire at our reception/ travellers desk for more info.
We are less than fifteen minutes drive to great Golf and Mashie courses
As well as specializing in group bookings, we also have various options available for budget conscious travellers. Our 12 rooms offer a range of accommodation: Dorms and private rooms with shared bathrooms, Family and private en suite rooms. All our guests staying in our rooms are offered a free welcome beverage upon arrival to enjoy whilst taking in the views Cape Towns beautiful Table Mountain. Free WiFi and a complimentary Sunrise breakfast in The Kimbo Coffee shop which are included in our accommodation rates. Great Pub Lunches and Dinners are also available on their menu.
Please note that our pubs downstairs offers a vibrant atmosphere during happy hour, over weekends and during some events like South African Rugby days etc. As a result, some may find the rooms a bit noisy. We recommend to our guests that they join in, meet some of our local and international travellers and be part of the fun. The bar closes around 4am, in time for the more committed to hit the clubs that are in walking distance.
The Kimbo Coffee shop offers a menu of dining classics ranging from Toasted Sandwiches, Bangers and Mash to Steak egg and Chips and lots more. Try our famous Beef Burgers that are home made (no processed pork patties here) and served with a good portion of chips. If there is a group of you, you can opt for the Snack Baskets or share a Platter.
We have ATM machine onsite should you wish to draw cash.
A full range of sports and leisure are available for rental –including Bycicles,Kayaks,surfboards,longbords,skateboards,Sharkshields,snorkling gear ,Golf clubs, Stand up paddle boards .

Terms & Conditions
- Check in is from 14:00 and Check out until 11:00. Let us know if you would like to check in earlier, we will try our best to accommodate you. Late check outs can be arranged where possible, please let us know in advance .Late departure fees may be applicable
- Children can only be accommodated in a private room or in the Family Room and must be accompanied by an adult. Due to the busy Pub downstairs the KImbo Lodge is not ideal for children and persons with sensitive and religious views against Alcohol
- Children are not allowed to be accommodated in dormitories unless whole dorm is booked by group of children accompanied by a adult.
- Prepayment:
50% of the total value of the booking will be charged before the arrival date. Remainder to be settled upon check in. Upfront total payments will be taken for one and two day bookings - within 30 days before arrival date.
- Certain hi demand peeriods such as Easter Christmas etc will require full prepayment
- When booking a tour a deposit will be taken at the time of reservation, to confirm the booking. The balance will be payable directly to the guide on the day of the excursion.
Cancellation:
If cancelled up to 30 days before date of arrival, no fee will be charged. If cancelled 29-7 days before date of arrival, 50% of the total price of the reservation will be charged. If cancelled later or in the case of a no show, the total price of the reservation will be charged.
